A chemical peel is a technique that can be used to improve the appearance of your skin. It can be applied on the face, hands or neck. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
There are three basic types of peels:
- Superficial or lunchtime peel: a mild acid is used to penetrate the outer layer of the skin to gently exfoliate. This treatment helps improve the appearance of mild discoloration and rough skin.
- Medium peel: a stronger acid is used to exfoliate the outer and middle layers of the skin. This treatment is used to improve fine lines, freckles and moderate skin discoloration.
- Deep peel: a strong acid is applied to deeply penetrate that middle layers of the skin to remove damaged skin cells. This procedure is only used on the face and can only be performed once.
I went to Dr Wilmoth on two occasions, both stemming from basal carcinoma on my face. He is a caring, compassionate doctor who is the best in his field. Dr Wilmoth performed Mohs surgery on me twice. I have a background in Biology. I highly recommend him.*
My experience at the Skin Center with Dr. Boyse was just wonderful! Dr. Boyse gets right to the point when she gives advice for your problem. The products are made for individual skin types. The staff and the service cannot be beat. If you want top of the line products, the Dermatology Skin Center is the place to go! The office location is easy to get to. I am able to get there and back to work within an hour, due to the great service!*
We were referred to Dr. Wilmoth about 4yrs ago. We have always had a reminder call and been seen in a relatively short time once we have signed in at the office. We have been treated very well by all staff members each time. We go to the N Raleigh office and Dr. W. is only there on Monday so we arrange our schedule to be sure we see him because he has always been very professional and gives clear directions and suggestions on how to avoid future problems. My husband develops small cancers every so often, mostly on his forehead and our experiences have all been very good.*
My insurance changed about a year ago and I could no longer see Dr. Laura and I realized how wonderful she is compared to other dermatologists in the area. I have severe plaque psoriasis and have struggled to find ANY medication that even slightly helped. Since working with Laura we have finally found a medication that works wonders, Stellara. Originally I had to come into the office every 3 months to get the shot. The copay for most insurances isn’t cheap for a specialist… and when I mentioned this to her she told me that she really only needed to see me once a year for blood work and I could come and get the shot with a nurse to avoid the copay (as long as I promised to call if anything weird was going on). THEN after about a year of that, approved with my insurance me being able to give myself the shot at home. This way, I see her once a year and call her with any problems. Since changing insurances the new doctors I have met with want me to come in for the shot and see them every three months… which is really just a way to for them to make money in my eyes. I have had the same condition for going on 20 years and have been giving myself the Stellara shot at home for 2+ years… there is no reason I could see (that isnt monetary) for any dermatologist to see otherwise. I recently changed back to the previous insurance that Southern Derm accepts and I cant wait to make an appointment and make Laura my dermatologist again. As to office atmosphere- mostly adults… not really “kid friendly” when it comes to things to keep them busy (which doesn’t really affect me)… never have had to wait a long time…. easy parking…. and friendly nursing/ scheduling staff!*
Highly recommend this office! I suffered from psoriasis for many years before deciding to see a doctor and it was the best decision I ever made.*
I hate going to the doctor period but this place is fantastic. I love my doctor she’s quick and thorough. If I need medical and cosmetic I’ve been treated same day. Both the doctors on staff as well as the nurses on the cosmetic side are very good at what they do.*
This is the best dermatologist in Raleigh! I’ve dealt with eczema my whole life and been to many practices in Raleigh and Durham and this practice is the best! They have helped me come up with a wonderful treatment plan and go the extra mile several times a week to accommodate me and my infant son when I come in for light treatment. Tracy is wonderful and the nurse staff is so great. I’d give them 10 stars if possible!*
After seeing the mixed reviews on every dermatologist in the area, I was reluctant about choosing a place to go. I had an infected cyst that was very painful and wanted it taken care of as soon as possible. I called their office, worried that like most places, they were booked up for the near future. But the receptionist took the time to talk with the nurse about fitting me in and I got an appointment the next morning, even though I was a new patient! Reception was very friendly when I got there and got me processed quickly. Dr. Briley was in the room in a few minutes after I was taken back. She was very friendly and explained everything to me about my situation. My cyst was taken care of quickly and I was out of there BEFORE we had even reached my scheduled appointment time. I am a small business owner and very much appreciate quality customer service and attention to the needs of those in need of service. I was very satisfied with my choice and would recommend them to anyone!*
I don’t think it can get any better than Southern Dermatology, the doctors, staff and many services offered are awesome. I have been going to Southern Dermatology for over 5 years. Dr Briley is my first and only attending dermatologist. Not knowing where to go and fairly new to NC, they were my first choice when I knew I probably had a skin cancer on my back. It was cancerous and I have had many treatments since for actinic keratosis, precancerous lesions. Because of the traveling distance I have attempted to find a good doctor who would be closer to no avail. I didn’t find anyone whom listened or would/could follow the treatment plan Dr Briley was following and I preferred given the alternatives. Long story shorter, I went back to Southern Dermatology and Dr Briley, never to stray again. I just don’t think there is any better place to go. The doctors, staff and service is awesome. Most of all, through out my continuing treatment, Dr Briley always lays out my options and I along with her input make the decision as to what treatment to pursue. That is not the case with most doctors.*
First off let me give you a little back story. I have been trying to get help with my skin for many years. The dermatologists that I have been to couldn’t figure out my problem. Each time I saw one, it would be three months until I can get in. I tried to get into Duke, and they kept giving me the run-around. When I finally had enough, the head of HR said that they can’t help me. I was desperate and found The Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center of Raleigh. I told them my story and they said, I’m sorry but we don’t have anything open for today, how about tomorrow. I couldn’t believe it, the next day and I was in. I explained my issues to the nurse and she took notes. Very quickly, the doctor came in and examined me. He included me his diagnosis and explained to me what he thinks it could be. He also worked with me with my current finical issue. He was able to do testing that would keep my cost down. Even after the testing, he made time to see me (not a scheduled visit) and explained his findings. His whole staff is very helpful. Everyone knows me by name. Everyone is very friendly yet professional. I will recommend this place to anyone that needs help with their skin.*
