A chemical peel is a technique that can be used to improve the appearance of your skin. It can be applied on the face, hands or neck. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

There are three basic types of peels:

  • Superficial or lunchtime peel: a mild acid is used to penetrate the outer layer of the skin to gently exfoliate. This treatment helps improve the appearance of mild discoloration and rough skin.
  • Medium peel: a stronger acid is used to exfoliate the outer and middle layers of the skin. This treatment is used to improve fine lines, freckles and moderate skin discoloration.
  • Deep peel: a strong acid is applied to deeply penetrate that middle layers of the skin to remove damaged skin cells. This procedure is only used on the face and can only be performed once.
