My insurance changed about a year ago and I could no longer see Dr. Laura and I realized how wonderful she is compared to other dermatologists in the area. I have severe plaque psoriasis and have struggled to find ANY medication that even slightly helped. Since working with Laura we have finally found a medication that works wonders, Stellara. Originally I had to come into the office every 3 months to get the shot. The copay for most insurances isn’t cheap for a specialist… and when I mentioned this to her she told me that she really only needed to see me once a year for blood work and I could come and get the shot with a nurse to avoid the copay (as long as I promised to call if anything weird was going on). THEN after about a year of that, approved with my insurance me being able to give myself the shot at home. This way, I see her once a year and call her with any problems. Since changing insurances the new doctors I have met with want me to come in for the shot and see them every three months… which is really just a way to for them to make money in my eyes. I have had the same condition for going on 20 years and have been giving myself the Stellara shot at home for 2+ years… there is no reason I could see (that isnt monetary) for any dermatologist to see otherwise. I recently changed back to the previous insurance that Southern Derm accepts and I cant wait to make an appointment and make Laura my dermatologist again. As to office atmosphere- mostly adults… not really “kid friendly” when it comes to things to keep them busy (which doesn’t really affect me)… never have had to wait a long time…. easy parking…. and friendly nursing/ scheduling staff!*
